Q: How do you determine your skin type and proper skin care regime?

A: Dermatologists classify skin into six different types: Caucasian, Japanese, Thai, Asian/Indonesian, African and Black. Because of different melanin levels in skin, different products are needed. For instance, skin types one and two burn easily, so a daily sun block is needed. Where as skin types five and six never burn, so it is not as important. Also, skin types one and two age more rapidly as compared to skin types three to six, so anti-radicals are important. Skin types one and two also tend to be drier so a good moisturizer is also recommended.

Q: What are the different phases of aging skin?
A: The sign of aging occur in four phases. The first stage usually occurs between the ages of 25-30 in women and 35-40 in men. This is the 'no wrinkle' stage. Slight colour change will appear along with freckles and dark spots.
The second stage is 'wrinkles in motion,' meaning wrinkles will be seen only be seen during facial expressions. This stage occurs between the ages of 30-35 in women and 40-45 in men.
The third stage is 'wrinkles at rest,' wrinkles will be apparent even while face is not expressive. More liver spots will appear along with hyperpigmentation. This occurs between the ages of 40-60 in both men and women.
The final stage is when only wrinkles are apparent on the skin. This is seen in people over the age of 60. Skin will also appear more yellow or gray in tone and may even develop skin cancer in the lighter skin types.

A: For the very first signs of aging, topical treatment are effective. The use of vitamin A, C and E as well as Coincine Q10 have all been proven effective to fight the appearance of wrinkles. For more obvious damage, medication is useful along with alpha hydroxy acid peels or micro-crystal peels. More advanced sign of aging may require the use of ultrasound or meso-therapy In meso-therapy nutrients are injected directly into yhe skin. Laser are also very effective for reversing the sign of aging. Intense Pulse Light (IPL), helps smooth wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne and rejuvenates colour. While Botox treatments and Collagen are synthetic fillers for deeper lines.
